Looking Glass Design & Build Studio makes every effort to save as much original art glass as possible. Repairs are accomplished using a variety of techniques, each suited to the situation. All methods are non-destructive and reversible. When necessary, replacement glass is used that matches the original pieces to keep close to what the original artwork was intended.
Significant repairs or restoration often begin with deconstructing the broken sections of the window, carefully cleaning the reusable sections, replacing broken pieces of glass and re-assembly of the window. This often requires re-leading the entire window with new lead came and soldering the lead joints. Then, a cement compound is used on both sides of the window to further strengthen the stained-glass panels. A final clean up is done to remove residue and the window is buffed and polished like new.
